Walkabout Creek and the sights of McKinlay

McKinlay Shire has a couple of classic country pubs to visit.

At the town bearing the shire’s name, visitors will find the Walkabout Creek Hotel which starred in the Crocodile Dundee movies. This year marks 30 years since the first blockbuster hit the silver screen.

In little Kynuna, there’s the Blue Heeler Hotel, named for the loyal working dog of the land. Drop in for a ‘coldie’ at the right time and you may catch the local publican feeding a family of brolgas that turn up every afternoon at the pub.

This story was part of a special episode of Queensland Weekender exploring just a small part of Outback Queensland on Saturday 19 March 2016.
