American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

Lee and Vic weren’t the only ones to love American Dirt… Here is a book review from the QBD crew:

American Dirt is a fast-paced and heart-stopping novel by American author Jeanine Cummins, about the ordeal of a Mexican woman who had to leave behind her life and escape a drug cartel’s wrath as an undocumented immigrant to the United States with her son.

American Dirt grips you from the first page and you truly feel you are on the run with Lydia and her young son; rooting for them to survive their harrowing journey. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader interested and I found myself staying up late into the night to finish this one. It’s not a literary thriller but an emotional one with an original, albeit controversial, premise.

While there has been a lot of controversy swirling around this novel since the proof copies were released for review before publication, it is a riveting work of fiction. Recently chosen as an Oprah book club title, this is a novel that everyone should have on their shelf.
