The Gold Coast is the gateway to some great country drives. Hop in the car and head to Beechmont to find gentle pastures, cute villages and mountain views – all just a little more than half an hour from Surfers Paradise and 90 minutes from Brisbane.
From Nerang, take Binna Burra Mountain Drive and you’ll arrive first at Lower Beechmont. This leafy village has plenty of country charm; a rustic General Store; and a Camphor Laurel-framed café called the Nook and Kranny.
The café serves freshly baked treats and meals inspired by local produce – including tender steaks from the country butchery at Canungra.
The road continues to climb and weave to the plateau’s highest point at Upper Beechmont. Here, you’ll find a cluster of country accommodation called Clouds on Beechmont.
Guests can choose to stay at Old Saint John’s Church; a country style chalet; a modern apartment; or an African-inspired glamping tent – with extraordinary views of the Lamington Plateau.
