Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome

People come from all over the world to experience Cairns and Tropical North Queensland — and why wouldn’t they when tales of its famous, magnificent rainforest and diverse, vibrant wildlife travel far and wide?

The great news is you can combine all of that with some adventure, and you don’t even have to leave the centre of town. It’s all under one roof… or should we say dome… at Cairns Zoom.

Meet Gomez the Tawny Frogmouth, Pavlova the Koala, Holly the Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo, or Goliath the 4.5-metre Saltwater Croc!

“It’s a good opportunity for people to get up close and see just how quick a crocodile can move without the danger of being out in the wild,” said Stacey Denovan, Cairns Zoom wildlife expert.

So where does the action come into it? It’s intertwined amongst the exhibits, rope climbs, slack-lines, mid and high-rise ropes courses to suit every age and ability. In fact, there are 34 posts ranging from 3 metres to 13 metres in height.

And for the real thrill-seekers, climb the 72-step spiral staircase to the very top of the dome and walk around the outside for an amazing 360-degree view of Cairns.

For the quickest route back down, there’s a 13-metre tower from which you can descend on a partial free fall.

Of course, after all that action, you’ll need somewhere to rest your head… how about right across the road?

The Pacific Cairns has luxurious hotel rooms with stunning views of Cairns and a solar-heated 12-metre outdoor pool. The restaurant deserves a special mention, for its buffet breakfast by morning and Bushfire Flame Grill Restaurant by afternoon, into the night. It’s award-winning!
