It’s a beautiful thing to pass on the sensibilities of ethical and sustainable farming to your kids. It really sets them up for a lifetime of healthy eating and a deeper understanding and empathy for where our produce comes from!
Somewhere you’re bound to learn a thing or two is at Running Creek Beef… a cattle station nestled among the McPherson Ranges in the Scenic Rim. Graziers, Deb and Rod, are among the proud regional producers on the pedestal for this year’s Eat Local Week… a chance to celebrate the food, farmers and natural beauty of the region through a program of festivals, farm gates and rich culinary experiences.
From June 26 – July 4, Deb and Rod will be running farm tours as a chance for visitors to feed their lovely Sahiwal cattle, learn about their rarity, and purchase local goods from their farm gate.
Another passionate player in sustainable farming, and also mates of Deb and Rod, is Rachel from Jasmine Urban Farm. During Eat Local Week you’ll find her running hands-on workshops at Running Creek Beef for the big and small kids… a chance to get your hands dirty all while learning how to attract butterflies, bees and beneficial bugs to your home garden. Each participant will make their own take-home seed bombs so they too can become mini urban farmers!
If this has your mouth watering, a chance to taste Rachel’s urban-grown produce and Deb and Rod’s premium beef is on the first night of Eat Local Week. Chef Lana, from Flutterby Gourmet Creations, will conjure up a five-course feast to be enjoyed under the stars… aptly named ‘Country Heart and Soul’. Book your tickets here.
You can also make the moment last longer and spend the night at their beautiful 1903 cottage, just across the creek.
See the Eat Local Week website for all the events not to be missed!
