Beach houses don’t get more beachie than Sandcastles on the Beach, in the Bundaberg coastal neighbourhood of Bargara.
It offers two and three bedroom self-contained apartments that are really roomy, and their particular selling point is that the backyard is right on the dunes.
Visitors wanting to get active, and make the most of the location can take advantage of Bargara Vintage Bicycle Hire Company, which has bikes available for exploring the Coral Coastline.
There’s a path that leads right along the esplanade into Bargara’s CBD, and a must-visit café in the heart of the precinct is The Journey. Mat Grill’s specialty coffee cum health café offers all sorts of good-for-you, locally made treats.
And there’s a variety of other eating options nearby, including fish and chip shops, and the delightfully presented The Windmill Café.
Cyclists who’ve replenished their energy can then continue north along the bike path, past some great playgrounds, and coastal highlights including Nielson Beach and Barolin Nature Reserve.

The opposite end of the path through the nature reserve spills out onto Mon Repos Conservation Park. This is a beautiful beach that’s also a very important turtle nesting site. The turtles arrive in large numbers around Christmas to lay and bury their eggs, and hatchlings spring from the sand around Easter. Both are events not to be missed.
