Jungle Surfing

As if the journey across the Daintree River into the world’s oldest rainforests of Cape Tribulation isn’t exciting enough, there’s a next level adventure there for tourists.

Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours operate in a private rainforest pocket surrounded by lush prehistoric and heritage-listed wilderness, with views from 20 metres up in the tree tops, out to the ocean and coral reefs.

Tours start with a human hamster wheel that uses people power to winch the jungle surfers up to their starting platform.

Guides then take small groups on zip line rides across a series of six landing areas, and while the activity is family-friendly, it also allows for some daredevil antics like hanging upside down.

The adventure goes for about two hours, and operates all day, and all weather. Pick ups can be arranged from Cairns and Port Douglas.

There’s holiday accommodation nearby that also takes advantage of rainforest on three sides, as well as a long white beach at its front door.

Cape Trib Beach House is actually 33 wooden cabins in a resort setting, with a pool, restaurant and bar.

Some are set up for couples, and there are family rooms available. There’s also backpacker dorm accommodation for big groups, or travelers who are watching their budget.
