Kenilworth Woodworks – The Chapel

Sitting pretty on Montville’s main street, The Chapel is a favourite spot for couples to tie the knot. The picturesque wedding venue overlooks the Sunshine Coast hinterland and, although the views are breathtaking, The Chapel’s standout feature is its intricate interior woodwork.

The timber artistry is the creation of local woodworker, Jack Wilms, who dedicated a year to the project – putting other work at his Obi Valley studio on hold. Jack’s passion is creating timber sculptures of Australian wildlife and scenes, using Australian red cedar.
Red cedar was a popular building material with early Australian settlers, who referred to it as ‘red gold’.

The treasured timber also features at a heritage homestead in Kenilworth, about 2 hours north of Brisbane. Kenilworth Homestead was built in the 1860’s by two cabinet makers. It remains a private residence but the homestead’s grounds are open to the public on weekends.

Pitch a tent; park the caravan; or book into one of the homestead’s beautiful spa rooms to immerse yourself in this slice of history.
