O’Reilly’s Anniversary

O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat has been a favourite holiday destination for families going back generations. This year they are celebrating several milestones and are holding some special events.

It was thirty years ago that O’Reilly patriarch ‘Big’ Pete O’Reilly created Australia’s first tree top walk. When it opened in 1987, the canopy walk gave visitors a completely different view of the rainforest.

In 2017, O’Reilly’s is also celebrating Bernard O’Reilly’s incredible rescue of the Stinson crash survivors 80 years ago. An anniversary hike that retraces his steps from the retreat to the Stinson crash site will be held in September. It’s an iconic walk where hikers traverse 37kms and 13,000 feet in a single day. For serious hikers, it’s a must do experience!

This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Australia’s biggest and longest running birding event. O’Reilly’s Rainforest Bird Week is a great opportunity for a close encounter with some of Lamington National Park’s most colourful characters. Bird Week is from the 5th to the 11th of November. Guests can enjoy incredible bush walks, educational talks, and spot an array of stunning birds.

Guests who visit O’Reilly’s for Bird Week and the Stinson bush walk are invited to call the iconic retreat home. There’s a great selection of comfy rooms ideal for couples and families. And the rainforest view villas add a dash of luxury.
