Every year, the Scenic Rim throws a party to celebrate its incredible local produce. Eat Local Week has been a regular on Queensland’s events calendar for a decade, but this year a certain virus had other ideas!
Refusing to be beaten, producers in the region decided that if the city couldn’t come to them, they’d bring the tastes of The Scenic Rim to the city. And so, the Scenic Rim’s Farm Box was born.
The Farm Box is a curated selection of the region’s finest produce, delivered directly from local farm gates to your front gate. Each week, customers have the option to ‘virtually’ handpick their groceries or choose a Farm Box that’s pre-packed and ready to go.
Long time sponsors of Eat Local Week, Kalfresh Vegetables have helped get this crafty concept off the ground. “We’re a large employer in the region and we grow, pack and sell produce and deliver it daily to Brisbane and all the other cities on the east coast of Australia,” said Richard Gorman, CEO and Shareholder of Kalfresh. Using Kalfresh’s knowledge and facilities, the Eat Local Week champions were able to turn this dream into a reality.
Many local producers have welcomed the opportunity to showcase their products through this new initiative and for many, it has been a much-needed lifeline during the last few months. Each week there will be a plethora of items to choose from including, meat, vegetables, fruit, baked goodies, pantry picks, skincare and alcohol (providing it’s a gift for someone special).
The Scenic Rim Farm Box couldn’t have come at a better time as people discover a new appreciation for eating local and supporting local businesses. Fresh produce plucked straight from the farm and delivered to your front door – it doesn’t get better than that!
