Toowoomba – 1930’s style

Take a trip back in time to the elegant 1930’s when you next visit Toowoomba. The city’s art deco jewel, the Empire Theatre, hosts fabulous entertainers, plays, musicals and performances – but it’s also open for guided tours twice a week. The whistle-stop tours share some of the building’s history and showcase its elegant art deco features – including the stylish “Bomber Light” above the main auditorium and magnificent Proscenium Arch over the stage.

While in town, why not continue the theme and stay at “The Cubby”? “The Cubby” is a traditional 1930’s gable that was transformed by owner Jo Russell into a stylish and comfortable guest-house for visitors to the Garden City. Jo’s dad and a business partner bought the Empire Theatre in the 1970’s, saving it from demolition – and she still recalls playing in the theatre as a child. Her beautiful guest-house boasts three bedrooms, a fireplace and a stunning indoor-outdoor room.
