Volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities is a free facility that helps support seriously ill children and their families. Parents, along with their little ones can settle into their home away from home as they navigate what will most likely be some of the toughest moments of their lives.

These incredible houses are spread right across Australia and rely heavily on the help of caring volunteers to keep things ticking along. Mary is one of those generous people, who has dedicated 8 years of her life to volunteering at Ronald McDonald House. You’ll find her in the kitchen baking up a storm for the in-house guests, alongside her dear friend Annie.

“I’ve had sick children and we used to have to go home of a night and it just breaks your heart,” explained Mary.  “So, this is fantastic! Parents can come, they can rest and relax and they’re close.”

If baking isn’t really your thing, there are many other ways you might like to get involved. Volunteers can help out with vital fundraising events, become a guest ambassador that helps support guests, in-house assistance, host fun activities at the Kid Club and loads more. If you think you might like to lend a hand, you can email the team at volunteering.seq@rmhc.org.au for more information.

Another simple way you can help is by getting involved with McHappy day on Saturday, 19th November and, it’s as easy as buying a burger from your nearest Mcdonald’s restaurant. $2 from every Big Mac sold will help fund the much-needed facilities provided by Ronald McDonalds House Charities across Australia.
