I think most dads can agree, a luxury car would be a pretty special way to say ‘thank you’ on Father’s Day. Let’s be honest, for the vast majority of us, that will never happen, but there is an experience in Brisbane that gives you the next best thing. That is the Porsche Track Experience at RACQ’s Mobility Centre. This year Lee tried out the precision program.
The team at Porsche have put together a team of expert drivers to teach people how to drive the cars, the way they’re supposed to be driven. Supercars Series racing driver, Luke Youlden, leads the team through the course, and if you’re lucky, he might even take you for a drive at the end of the day.
Participants are put through their paces in three stages. You’ll get a go at a circuit, a skid pan, and a Gymkhana. This is where you’ll drive a number of Porsche vehicles through an obstacle course, while being timed. The pressure of the clock encourages you to push your limit, while using the skills you’ve learned throughout the day.
At the very end of the day, you get a turn at being a passenger. Sit back and enjoy a hot lap through the circuit, with a professional driver behind the wheel. It might not be the relaxing weekend you usually ask for on Father’s Day, but it is certainly one of the most exhilarating experiences you’ll ever have.
If you want to take your skills to the next level, Porsche offers a number of courses to drivers wanting to improve. One day, you might even be racing alongside someone like Luke. For now, we think we will leave it to the professionals.
