The Clydesdale Spectacular is on at the Boonah Showgrounds on the 15th and 16th of June, 2024. Trot on out for an incredible weekend celebrating these gentle giants of the horse world. It’s the richest Clydesdale Show in the southern hemisphere where the grand champions are judged and awarded. But there’s so much more to see and do. The guest of honour at this year’s festival is renowned artist Andy Scott, who is best known for creating the 30 metre tall equine sculptures ‘The Kelpies’ in Falkirk, Scotland. But closer to home, he is the creator of the Clydebuilt statue, which sits proudly in the centre of Boonah. You can meet the sculptor at An Evening With Andy Scott on Wednesday June 12 and across the weekend.
Clydesdales are known as the horses that built the nation and the behemoth breed is synonymous with the Scenic Rim. Scottish descendants who first brought their beloved Clydesdales to the region are honoured with a stirring massing of pipes and drums, calling of the clans and Scottish caber tossing. There will also be Scottish fare on offer like haggis burgers and pies. Plus, you can try 10 different Scottish whiskies at the Clydie Bar, along with locally distilled gin and exclusive rum blends. The Queensland Whip cracking championships will be held, along with the World Billy Boiling competition. There will be wood chopping, working dog displays and rare trades like blacksmithing and harness making on show. Find the full program for the Clydesdale Spectacular here.
