Every single night, 105,000 Australians don’t have a safe place to call home – a staggering statistic that Nicholas Marchesi and Lucas Patchett knew they had to do something about.
Orange Sky Laundry is the world’s first free mobile laundry service for the homeless. In 2014, Nic and Lucas had an idea to put two washing machines and two dryers in a van and wash and dry clothes for free. As you could say, the rest was history.
There are now 14 laundry vans in operation, 3 shower vans, about 850 volunteers reaching 140 locations each week, washing and drying about 5.8 tonnes of laundry.
But aside from washing, the most important thing Orange Sky Laundry has set out to do is connect people with the community.
