Tropical North Queensland is a magical part of our state that has natural beauty at every turn, and some of Queensland’s top tourist attractions.

If you want explore the region on four wheels, a great idea is to do it in an electric car. If you don’t own one, you can hire one from Sixt Australia. They boast the largest EV rental fleet in Australia and make the whole process super easy. They send customers a EV quick start guide to their phones and first time EV drivers will get a free run through of the car before they head off. Right now, Sixt is offering a great EOFY deal for RACQ members. Range anxiety is a concern for new EV drivers, but there are many fast chargers around Queensland, and many more are on the way. RACQ is a great resource for learning about the state’s charging network that connects Coolangatta to Port Douglas and spreads as far west at Mt Isa and Longreach.

In North Queensland, fast chargers are often found at popular tourist attractions. Destination chargers, which are a little bit slower, are also found at top tourist spots. Combined, this network of chargers makes range anxiety a thing of the past. For more information about the tourist attractions that have chargers, check out this great article: EV Drive in TTNQ.

One such tourist attraction that offers free destination charging is Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures. Guests can get up close with a range of Aussie favourites – wombats, koalas, kangaroos and of course, crocodiles! And if you’re an RACQ member, you’re in luck. Members can save with discounts on pre-purchased tickets. Head to this website to learn more: RACQ Hartley’s Discount.

In Port Douglas, Wildlife Habitat also offers unforgettable wildlife experiences. Their ‘Breakfast with the Birds’ is a family favourite, and you’ll have to be brave to experience ‘Swim with the Salties’! Oh, and they’ve even got a 500KW fast charger for EVs in their carpark!

Also in Port Douglas is Sailaway which offers incredible tours to the Great Barrier Reef. They have serious eco credentials, having recently launched the world’s first electric tender / glass bottomed boat!

Nearby is another top tourist attraction (that also has FREE destination EV charging). It’s the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre. It’s home to an art gallery and café and is the meeting point for fascinating 90 minute guided Dreamtime walks of the rainforest.

Just an hour’s drive away is the incredible Daintree Rainforest. A wonderful place to stay a few nights is the Daintree Wilderness Lodge and two tourist attractions you can’t miss are the Daintree Discovery Centre and the Daintree Ice Cream Company.
