A TV Producer’s Top Five Spots in Queensland

For 13 years I’ve had the privilege of working as a producer on three TV programs that cover the length and breadth of Queensland.

Often people ask me…what’s the best place you’ve been to?

It’s a tough call. Choosing one is hard. So let me choose my top 5.

Lawn Hill / Adels Grove Camping Park

About 300kms north west of Mt Isa is an incredible oasis, Boodjamulla National Park, which features Lawn Hill Gorge. It’s filled with fresh water and is home to lush vegetation and an abundance of wildlife. In a word, it’s spectacular.

Nearby is Adel’s Grove where visitors can camp or stay in bed and breakfast accommodation in furnished river tents or rooms.

Carnarvon Gorge

This really is the ideal family camping destination. The 35-kilometre gorge is packed with easy walks for all ages and stunning scenery, with towering walls up to 600 metres high.

Takarakka Bush Resort is a great spot to base yourself. It’s just a few minutes from the gorge and has accommodation ranging from tents to luxury studios for couples.

Haggerstone Island

Haggerstone is a private island resort in the far north that can accommodate about ten guests. Think ‘Robinson Crusoe’ meets ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’. It’s remote, beautiful and offers plenty of adventure and relaxation.

Lady Elliott Island

At the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef is Lady Elliott Island. It’s surrounded by incredible coral gardens and sea life that includes giant rays and migrating whales. It’s one of the top diving and snorkelling sites on Earth.

There are no phones, TVs or radios, making it ideal for families looking for a natural, eco-friendly holiday.

Longreach

A holiday to the outback should be on everyone’s list and that means a trip to the bush capital, Longreach.

There’s plenty to do. The Qantas Museum. The Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Cruises along the Thomson River.

I’d recommend timing your holiday with the popular Outback Festival in the nearby town of Winton. Thousands flock to the region for the biggest party in the West!
