What are the The Medoran Chronicles about?
The Medoran Chronicles is a young adult fantasy series a bit like Harry Potter meets X-Men and Narnia. The books follow sixteen-year-old Alexandra Jennings as she finds herself stranded in a fantasy world called Medora. While there, she learns that only one person can return her home — the headmaster of Akarnae Academy — but he’s missing. Waiting for him to reappear, Alex enrols at his school for teenagers with supernatural gifts and has to survive classes like combat, stealth and subterfuge, and PE (“Physical Exhaustion”), among others. There’s also a sentient library who speaks to her and opens doorways to fantastical places, and on top of all that, an immortal, exiled prince who needs Alex’s help to take over the world. That’s all in the first book, and everything only escalates from there!
What inspired The Medoran Chronicles?
Honestly, I just wrote the book I wanted to read, and the first book, Akarnae, was a result of that!
Would you want to live in Medora?
Oh, definitely! No question about it! (Especially if I could just write myself out of any problems! #AuthorPerks)
What is your writing process like?
I don’t really have a “process” — I sit down and I write, then I keep writing until I’m done. I tend to finish manuscripts really fast (often within the space of a month) because I’m so consumed by what’s happening that I need to know how things will end (even if I already know in my head).
What are some of your favourite books?
How long do we have here? This is really an impossible question (there are SO MANY), but a few series that spring to mind are Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, Throne of Glass and A Court of Thorns and Roses both by Sarah J. Maas, The Black Witch by Laurie Forest, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, Green Rider by Kristen Britain, and Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I also recently read A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer and really enjoyed that, too.
