5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Woodford

When you think of the town of Woodford, its annual folk festival probably pops to mind, but did you know that the town is home to so much more? Here are five reasons why we think Woodford should be your next day-trip destination!

To indulge your sweet tooth

For sugar addicts, a visit to Woodford’s Braisen Hussy Garden Cafe will be life-changing! Here you can find some of the best milkshakes and pancakes around, plus a variety of plants and small gifts.

To attend the Woodford Folk Festival

Every year come late December/early January, Woodford is transformed into a folk music wonderland for festival-goers. 2019 will mark the 34th year of the festival, and it’s set to be a rocking year! There are over 500 performances scheduled, from the likes of Kasey Chambers, Emma Louise, Archie Roach, Harry Manx and Kate Miller-Heidke. Don’t worry, because it’s not too late to grab your ticket!

Go for a dip in Stony Creek

Next time you visit Woodford, pack your togs for a swim in Stony Creek Swimming Hole, on the southern end of the Bellthorpe Forest Reserve. If you’re not the swimming type, a bushwalk through the national park is also a great way to spend the day.

To see the AS1 Leopard Tank

History buffs will love visiting Woodford’s memorial park to see the AS1 Leopard Tank. You can find the tank near the town’s water tower.

To ride on the Woodford Railway

If you can, time your visit to Woodford on the first or third Sunday of the month for your chance to go for a ride on the Woodford Railway. The train ride lasts about 20 minutes and shows off Woodford’s beautiful rural scenery. Tickets are just $6 for adults and $3 for kids aged between 5-15 years old, with kids under five riding free.
