If there’s a pint-sized human in your life then you may be familiar with their friends Annie and Clarabel, Henry, James, Emily, Gordon …oh and Thomas!
Thomas is a little blue tank engine who has captured the hearts of tiny tots around the world for more than seventy years.
So it’s a treat when he leaves the island of Sodor for a holiday in the City of Ipswich (Queensland) and when that happens, “Day out with Thomas” is a very popular school holiday must-do.
On their visit to the Workshops Rail Museum in Ipswich, youngsters can meet Thomas the Tank Engine, Sir Topham Hatt (aka the Fat Controller) and many of Thomas’ friends.
There are Thomas-themed craft activities; train sets to construct and play with, and a huge model railway to watch in action. Kids can even drive a train simulator.
The Workshops Rail Museum in North Ipswich is a popular destination at any time of year. It’s custodian of Queensland’s rail history and there are all sorts of representations of rail through the ages, and in modern days.
What makes the centre so appealing to families is that many of the displays are interactive. Young children will LOVE the Nippers Railway indoor adventure playground.
Children of all ages – as well as many parents – will find the Sciencentre fascinating. It has 20 workstations where they can discover the physics and workings behind all things rail.
Day out with Thomas will return for a winter season during the school holidays from June 26, 2021 until July 11. Admission includes entry to the museum and all exhibits.
