Fine Dining at Brisbane Airport

There’s no question that travel can broaden the mind, but can it satisfy the appetite? Now it can!

Wave goodbye to the notion that all airport food is underwhelming and overpriced.

The Aviary Café and Bar is offering up high-end dishes like Grilled King George Whiting with a crispy julienne garnish and Harissa Chicken Pita with a tangy tzatziki.

They’re mere morsels of what’s on the offer at Aviary, one of the newcomers bucking the bland airport food label.

Owner George Drivas is right behind the change.

“We wanted to create a dining style that is a table service style at a domestic terminal,” George said. “We wanted to give the ability for passengers to come pre-flight and get served at the table, relax and dine with us before they fly out.”

The airport is where the holiday starts after all.

Also recently touching down at the Qantas end of the terminal is The Common and it’s anything but.

With mid-century décor from the same design team behind Brisbane’s Calile Hotel, this restaurant has loads of relaxed character and Chef Erkan at the helm.

“What we’re trying to do is at The Common is surprise our passengers, so we’re the first and potentially their last experience in Queensland and we’re really trying to make an impact there.” He said.

It’s the taste that’s the stuff of any fine dining restaurant in the centre of town. Think King Fish Ceviche with a coconut cream drizzle and crispy skinned porchetta on a bed of salsa verde.

“It’s a Tender Valley pork that we have, a beautiful Queensland pork,” Chef Erkan explained. “With it rocket and fennel really nice and finely sliced up and underneath we have some oranges as well just to give this dish not a winter, not a summer, just an all-year feeling.” “Usually you would think a porchetta with mash is a heavy winter dish, but this one I’m really trying to lighten it up.” While you’re waiting for that boarding call, why not christen your holiday with a celebratory tipple?

At Brissie’s own Newstead Brewing Co, craft beer flows with abandon but it’s just the tip of the bespoke bevvy iceberg. Think a tropical cocktail infused with the citric bite of green ants! If that doesn’t give you a taste of Queensland, I don’t know what does!

Here’s our travel tip for a holiday book-ended by great taste: arrive at Brisbane Domestic Terminal early and take the stress out of your journey with a relaxed preflight dining experience or celebrate touching down in the river city with a fabulous meal.
