Buckle up Bowen, it’s almost that time of the year again. The Don River Dash is gearing up for two days of adrenaline-fueled action, from 8 to 10 September 2023.
Come September, eager racers will fly 25 kilometres up stream of the Don River maneuvering their way through rough terrain, then back down the river-bed completing the 50 kilometre round trip.
Tom Jack is the 2022 champion in his class and he’s looking forward to carving it up again in 2023.
“It’s a crazy race, it’s just hectic, so fun,” he said.
This year will see around 120 cars and 400 motorbikes churn the sand, so expect to get dusty!
Lucky Bowen’s beautiful beaches are only moments away, so jump in the crystal-clear waters of Horseshoe or Rose Bay to clean up!
“We’re definitely blessed to live in this part of the country,” said Don River Dash event founder Michael Marson. “Airlie Beach probably gets more of a run but Bowen to be is probably just as good as those places just a little more secret and no one knows about it.”
Michael will also be taking place in this year’s race with his trusty Racer Engineering buggy.
“These cars here are purpose-made for this sort of stuff,” he said. “You really learn to trust the car, and I know exactly what this car’s going to do.”
“I’ve had it for 11 years so you sort of get that knowledge about it, you know you can just about anticipate anything.”
