The Roma Cup is the richest race day in Western Queensland and promises a weekend of fun, fillies, fashion and frivolity in the country. The annual event is held on the third Saturday in November.
The events start on the Friday night with a Calcutta in town, followed by a big day of racing and entertainment on Saturday. The band plays well into the night and Darryl Braithwaite’s Horses is always a crowd-favourite. The men’s Fashions on the Field is a highlight every year (it has to be seen to be believed), and the atmosphere during the whole weekend is fantastic.
You can camp onsite (byo blow up swimming pool), which some say is an attraction itself. The town also has a range of accommodation options. Motel Carnarvon provides a peaceful retreat – with single and family rooms, kitchen facilities, pool, BBQ and lovely landscaped gardens.
Roma has a full calendar of races and events throughout the year, including the Roma Picnic Races in March, The Easter Races, Rugby Races in June and Roma’s Easter in the Country.
