Brunswick Heads is a quaint little seaside town, just over the border in New South Wales. It’s not too far of a journey for us Queenslanders, and what better time to show a bit of support to our neighbours since borders have now re-opened.
First stop in town should be Footbridge Café – aptly named after the town’s own footbridge over the Brunswick River. Cameron Willis is the proud owner of this comfortable and welcoming brunch spot – and he’s not wrong to say this is the place to be. Whether you’re visiting for the day, or weekend away, this should be where your day starts. And after Cameron’s stint in Melbourne, the coffee is most definitely worth the drive. Tip: the pea, mint and halloumi fritters are the bomb… as is the jack’s breakfast!
With a full stomach, hitting the shops should come next. Fabulous Mrs Fox is another grand spot where old meets new! It’s a place that’ll have you feeling nostalgic, but also craving the latest must-have. They’re also the proud stockist of Status Anxiety – a local Bruns brand.
As a town that supports each other, Parri from Fabulous Mrs Fox, was quick to mention her love of Bruns Bakery. Luckily for us – that was our next stop!
Kurt Hogan first started there as an apprentice close to 20 years ago and has now owned the bakery for the last seven. From cakes, pies, pastries and sandwiches, their delicious goods are baked daily! Plus, it’s a theatre-style bakery – which means you can watch all sorts of treats being baked around the clock… yummo!
