Townsville Islands

Townsville is a great spot to base one’s self to take in some of the very best nature experiences North Queensland has to offer.
Magnetic Island’s Fort walk is famous not just for its amazing views but for the fact that it’s home to one of North Queensland’s largest wild populations of koalas. It’s a great way to have an up close and personal encounter with the iconic Aussie animal.
Whilst on Magnetic Island, a great place to stay is Peppers Blue on Blue. It’s just a minute’s walk from the marina and has plenty of options to suit every kind of traveller including hotel rooms, deluxe apartments and gorgeous penthouses with up to four bedrooms.
Just two hours offshore from Magnetic Island is Lodestone Reef. Adrenaline Dive offer day trips that leave from Magnetic Island and Townsville. Lodestone Reef offers fantastic diving and snorkelling opportunities for both experienced divers and beginners.
To enjoy the rainforests of the Paluma Range, a great option is staying with Hidden Valley Cabins. It’s run by the McLennan family who’ve owned it for 30 years. They run tours of the Paluma National Park and various other beauty spots in the region. Their eco retreat on the far side of the Paluma Range is highly regarded and offers a range of rustic cabins. From basic right up to deluxe! Hidden Valley is also a great place to spot the elusive platypus.
