They say that you shouldn’t go chasing waterfalls, but here at WEEKENDER, we would have to disagree! With so many impressive waterfalls right in our backyard, it’s hard not to chase them all over the country.
Up North in Girringun National Park, you can find Australia’s largest single drop waterfall, Wallaman Falls. You can’t help but feel small when you visit the Falls, which stand at a whopping 268m tall.
You can find Wallaman Falls around 50km south-west of Ingham. The drive is roughly an hour, but don’t worry, because it will fly by as you take in the beautiful rural surrounds. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a cassowary on the way, so drive carefully.
The aerial view is seriously impressive, but we would recommend checking out the waterfall from the base so that you can get a real sense of its height. To reach the base, take the Djyinda Walk. The return trip to the base of the Falls is only a return 3.2km, but trust us when we say that it’s a bit of a killer on the way back out as you make it back up the incline. The views make it all worth it though!
While in Ingham, we recommend staying at Tropixx Motel, and if you’re hungry, you can’t go past JK’s Deli in the main street. To see more of Wallaman Falls, check out Alana’s Instagram account, @workfortravel.
