The tropical town of Ingham is a 90 minute drive north of Townsville and offers up a couple of really special nature experiences.
A great place to stay when in town is at Lees Hotel. It’s recently had a big makeover and the accommodation is top notch. It also happens to be the original pub with no beer, the one made famous by Slim Dusty.
Ingham is home to the Tyto info and Wetlands Centre. It includes a gallery, library, and café and is right in town. Better still, it borders one of Australia’s largest urban wetlands.
There are 4kms of walking trails in the wetlands and its home to about 240 species of birds. To help appreciate them, bird hides and viewing platforms are scattered throughout.
Just outside of Ingham is the spectacular Wallaman falls. It’s Australia’s longest single drop waterfall at a whopping 275 metres. There are walking trails around the falls as well as a 3.2km return hike to the base of the falls.
