Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild by Dav Pilkey

Here is what the QBD crew thought…

Has Dog man turned to a life of crime? Everyone’s favourite heroic hound is sent to the pound for robbing a bank in this sixth instalment of the Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey.

Convinced Dog Man has been framed, his friends Lil Petey, 80-HD the robot, Yolay Caprese and reporter Sarah Hatoff work together to solve the mystery of who really committed the crimes he is accused of.

Meanwhile Dog man battles against his own self-doubt as he languishes in jail awaiting trial. Mocked by his fellow prisoners, and former colleagues, he begins to wonder if he really is a misfit, even in dog jail. Is he too human to be a dog, and too canine to be a human?

The evil mastermind who framed Dog Man won’t go down quietly once the treachery is exposed, but Dog Man and his cohorts are a force to be reckoned with; and they may even have one more member by the time the stage is set for the climactic battle. Will justice save the day and Dog Man be vindicated? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Throughout the book there are all the features kids love – the flip-o-rama’s, hilariously bad puns, and gross jokes. Short chapters and hilarity keep them reading, as well as Dog Man’s vulnerability as a hero. He doesn’t have super-powers, he doubts himself, he gets lonely. It’s a refreshing take on a hero in an age where super-powers and tech gizmos are the key to success.

Wise-cracking, heart-warming and intelligent, we give this book 5 big thumbs up!
