Queensland’s east coast is, in our humble opinion, one of the best stretches of coastline in the country. There are umpteen destinations dotted along the seashore that are worth a visit, including the Fraser Coast.
The region is not only known as the whale watching capital of Australia, but it’s home to the World Heritage listed island of K’Gari, the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef is on their doorstep, and it’s known as Australia’s most diverse fishery!
One any given day you’ll find anglers lining the railings of Urangan Pier. It’s one of the longest piers in Australia, stretching for almost a kilometre out into the ocean. You can catch anything from your bread-and-butter species closer to the shore, through to Spanish Mackerel in the deeper waters – no boat required!
If you do happen to have access to a boat, then you’ll want to drop a pin on Burrum Heads. This quaint coastal village is just 30 clicks north of Hervey Bay and offers up a variety of options when it comes to fishing! You could head upstream to target species like whiting, bream, flathead, mangrove jack and barramundi. Or maybe you’re keen for a jaunt offshore to chase mackerel, tuna, queenfish and more!
Whatever tickles your fancy, the Fraser Coast has something on offer 365 days a year!
