Tasty Stay in the City of Ipswich

Feel like a tasty, two-day adventure?

Head to the City of Ipswich, just 30 minutes from Brisbane, for a weekend break or mid-week staycation.

Let’s start with where you’re staying – and may we suggest Cumquat House?

This gracious 5-bedroom bed and breakfast stands out among the timber Queenslanders of Ipswich due to its unusual brick and concrete design.

Built in 1914, it’s a rare example in south-east Queensland of the Spanish Mission architectural style.

Owners and hosts, Peter and Marie, love to make their guests feel right at home – with a generous continental breakfast in the dining room and sweet treats on arrival.

Every day, Marie freshly bakes ‘Melting Moments’ as a welcome to guests – and they’re a memorable part of the experience of staying at this heritage home.

There may not be cumquats – but you’ll find loads of limes at a farm not far from Ipswich. Watercress Creek Olives & Limes is in pretty countryside at Pine Mountain.

Fourth generation farmer, Bernie Mahon, is the man behind the flourishing orchards – and he supplies his limes and juice directly to Brisbane bars and nightclubs, so that Margarita or Lime & Soda you’re sipping might just include a touch of Watercress Creek magic!

Head to the farmgate store to find plenty of artisan products starring limes and olives. You can also pick up a picnic box – or pre-order a picnic platter – to enjoy among the leafy groves.

Bernie’s limes also steal the limelight at Imbibis Craft Distillery – they’re among the local botanicals used to infuse gins made by ‘master of the still’ Jason Hannay.

The boutique distillery is a first for the City of Ipswich – and you can arrange a tasting by appointment.
