Embark from Cairns on one of Australia’s most picturesque and historic rail journeys – the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
Climbing the the train and heritage-listed carriages pass through the natural beauty of ancient rainforest to the fern-festooned station of Kuranda.
Choose to travel in Heritage Class or Gold Class, which includes a welcoming ‘mocktail’ at Freshwater Station plus full host service on board. Enjoy the ride with free-flowing wine, beer and other beverages plus a selection of tasty treats like Anzac biscuits, muffins, frozen mango ice cream and a lovely cheese platter.
The train makes a stop at Barron Falls – a 260 metre waterfall, that tumbles down to the rainforest below.
Once you reach Kuranda, visitors can explore this vibrant mountain village. There are a number of great attractions but, it would be hard to find one as colourful as the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. It’s the largest in the Southern Hemisphere with over 2000 butterflies!
For the journey back down the range, you can swap your train carriage for a Skyrail Rainforest Cableway gondola. There’s the option to take up a Skyrail Canopy Glider adventure – coasting above the rainforest on board an open-air gondola, accompanied by a ranger giving commentary along the way.
