Question: What do you get if you spend a morning exercising your brain, add on a delicious lunch and wine tasting, plus an evening relaxing in a spa bath in a cute cottage?
Answer: A perfect day in the Moreton Bay Region.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3 and only an hour’s drive north of Brisbane.
- Spend a morning at Mathema Gallery, Ocean View.
Dr Calvin and Rosemary Irons have spent 5 decades working passionately in mathematics education. They have turned all of that acquired knowledge, their books and artefacts into a maths museum – the first of it’s kind in the country. Many of the displays are interactive and all of them are fascinating. Learn about maths in history – like how the Babylonians developed techniques we still use today. And maths in literature – did you know the Cat in the Hat features the Fibonacci sequence? Some of the books date back to the early 1700s and all can be explored in the extensive library. Plus, there is plenty of maths merchandise to purchase in the gift store.
- Have lunch at Ocean View Estates.
If all that number crunching has left your tummy rumbling, fear not, there is an award-winning winery on the same property. Take a short walk through the vines to the peaceful Ocean View Estates. 4 varieties of grapes are grown on the picturesque patch and you can taste the full range of delicious drops available with a tasting paddle in the restaurant. The wine comes beautifully arranged on a wooden stand, complete with tasting notes. There’s an equal focus on quality food. The meals are made from fresh local produce and feature flavour influences from around the globe. A gourmet picnic is also an option and can be enjoyed on a rug by the water.
- Extend your stay
You’re probably a little weary by now. Luckily, you can stay in one of three cutes cottages on the estate, hidden in bushland. Some feature fires for the cooler months. And the Cabernet cottage has a spa bath on the deck. A glass of bubbles will pair nicely with that.
