My Queensland: Simone Hubbard

Dedicating her life to restoring beautiful, historic homes, you could say Simone Hubbard has a love for architectural design.

“We feel very lucky to have this beautiful home, and I think that’s the wonderful thing about Ipswich,” she told us. “It’s such a supporting heritage community. We wouldn’t live anywhere else.”

As the Vice President for the Ipswich Branch of the National Trust’s Great Houses of Ipswich program, it’s her job to boast about the wonderful, grandiose homes dotted around Ipswich that remind us of another era.

“The Great Houses of Ipswich program is an incredibly unique opportunity, just to go inside some amazing historic properties in Queensland’s oldest provincial city… When we talk about a great house, a great house is not particularly a grand house; but we open properties that are diverse in terms of architectural style for a period, and also scale.”

Great Houses of Ipswich can be enjoyed at your own leisure with no bookings required.

Should you wish to leave the car at home, Discover Ipswich operates a bus tour for a limited number of people which includes access to all three open homes, Devonshire Tea on the veranda of the award-winning Ipswich Visitor Information Centre and commentary from a local guide.

See the Great Houses website for house locations for your self-guided tour and the booking link to the Discover Ipswich bus tour.
