Colleen Mclaughlin and her sister Lorna Smith own and manage the Old Rainworth Fort, located 10km south of the town of Springsure.
Built in 1862, The Fort is a fortified Blockhouse that has had multiple uses including a magistrate’s office and the town’s first post office.
Rainworth Fort is made up of three buildings, The Fort itself, a homestead and a school, which Colleen and Lorna’s father, uncle and aunties attended.
Having grown up near the fort it has significant importance to the sisters who bought the property and began managing it in 1980. Despite not really knowing what they were doing when they started, the sisters have transformed the fort into an iconic tourist destination.
