Quandamooka – Stradbroke Island

Even if you’re a regular visitor to North Stradbroke Island, there’s now the chance to see it in a whole new light– thanks to Quandamooka Coast Tours.

Quandamooka Coast offers cultural walking tours that share stories of the island’s significance to its first people.

Join Josh Walker – descendent of Australian literary legend, Kath Walker (better known as poet, Oodgeroo of the Noonuccal tribe) – on a 90-minute stroll of rugged North Gorge, near Point Lookout.

During the tour, you’ll learn traditional names for local wildlife; discover how certain trees were used to fashion fishing nets and fire-making materials; and hear the indigenous creation story for Moreton Bay.

To continue the cultural theme, why not check into one of Minjerribah Camping’s campsites across the island?  At Adder Rock, you can set up your own canvas or settle into a permanent glamping tent. At the top of the range is the Eco Island Tent – with luxury furnishings, fridge, private deck and décor featuring local indigenous artists.

There’s also the option to enjoy a cultural feast thanks to Quandamooka Cuisine. Kieron Anderson Delaney is a proud ‘saltwater’ man and qualified chef. He serves up delicious dishes that combine traditionally used spices; bush tucker ingredients; and local seafood – with a contemporary twist.
