Like many young girls, Rani Luther took up ballet as a hobby when she was only little. For many, it’s only a small chapter in their lives. Few go on to achieve a professional ballet career like Rani has.
Rani’s professional career began in 1995. She has danced for acclaimed ballet companies around the world including the Keil Ballet Company in Germany, Netherlands Dance Theatre 2, The Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company and the Melbourne Ballet Company. As well as a professional dancer, Rani has choreographed a number of performances for companies across Australia.
In 2019, Rani was appointed Ballet Mistress and Creative Associate for Queensland Ballet. “So, the role of Ballet Mistress is to maintain the quality throughout [the company] from rehearsals to performances,” Rani explained. “So, we’re pretty much the eagle eye that goes from the ground, building up to performances,” she said
This year, Queensland Ballet celebrates 60 incredible years on the stage. The 60th Anniversary Gala is on from Friday, 20th March until Saturday, 28th March. The company’s dancers will be joined by international guest stars paying tribute to the contributions of Queensland Ballet’s five Artistic Directors. Tickets are available here.
