The S.S. City of Adelaide Shipwreck off Magnetic Island

Adam and Steph Hinks are the family behind Aquascene Charters, on Magnetic Island.

The sunset and shipwreck tour, visiting the site of the S.S. City of Adelaide – a 15-year old Scottish vessel with a proud history serving the east coast of Australia.

In 2018, this became the most popular image on Tourism Australia’s Instagram page with almost 200,000 likes.

From time to time I’ll see my own shot of the SS City of Adelaide in my feed and it takes me back to when we visited Magnetic Island 18 months ago. It was a small miracle the shot was actually taken, from being convinced to get out of bed on a dreary morning to changing where I wanted to shoot after getting up, there were plenty of things that lined up that morning. I can’t help but laugh about it looking back. Some things in life are about hard work and dedication and some of them, for better or for worse, are just lucky.
