Let’s face it, a family day out is becoming more and more expensive. It can feel impossible to get the whole gang out and about without spending hundreds of dollars. Our ultimate family day had all the essentials, but only cost $46 for two adults and two children.
How did we manage that? We went to the footy of course. The AFLW calls Brighton Homes Arena home in Brisbane. The Lions home ground is the perfect place to spend a weekend for countless reasons, but here’s just four.
- Free Train Travel
Footy fans can catch the train to the stadium for free, with the purchase of a ticket. Springfield Station is a short walk to the stadium. You can even see it from the platform.
- Lions Park
Well, what can we say about Lions Park other than wow! The kids won’t run out of things to do here. There’s face painting, glitter tattoos, family photos and even a bungee trampoline. It is hard to believe, but all the activities are free.
- Supporting your local community
Barracking makes for hungry work, so why not grab a snag at the Community Canteen. All the money raised at this barbeque goes back into community and supports local AFL clubs. Plus, every dollar you spend here, Youi matches, so you can feel good about your purchase.
- Supporting the Brisbane Lions
They don’t call them the pride of Brisbane town for nothing. The Brisbane Lions women’s team are incredible role models for young girls looking to get into the sport. With two Premierships already under their belt since the launch of AFLW in 2017, these ladies are certainly ones to watch.
