Townsville is a great destination during school holidays. The Strand has just had a big makeover that includes a new waterpark and lagoon.
On Flinders Street there’s a great selection of attractions to entertain the whole family. Reef HQ is the biggest living coral reef aquarium in the world. And right next door is the Museum of Tropical Queensland. It’s all about exploring the cultural and natural heritage of tropical Queensland. And over school holidays they offer a range of programs and fun activities aimed at kids.
Just outside of the CBD is Billabong Sanctuary. It’s home to a huge selection of animals such as crocodiles, dingoes, snakes, koalas and much more.
A terrific way to get to Townsville and other parts of the tropical north is on board the Spirit of Queensland. It’s the coziest train trip to be found thanks to the revolutionary rail beds that convert seats into a lie flat bed for overnight trips.
