Sydney is always an exciting and vibrant city, but during the months of May and June, it really lights up! Vivid Sydney, the festival of lights, music and ideas, is on its way back to the Harbour City. Expect three weeks of immersive light projections and installations–across the city and in Chatswood–fascinating public talks and debates, with leading industry professionals and creative thinkers, and a line-up of incredible music gigs! Check out Mel’s chat with Erth Visual and Physical Inc.’s Producer Ella Millard, and Darkinjung woman and puppeteer Shana O’Brien in the video above.
The main festival precincts include the Opera House–where the magical lighting of the sails occurs nightly–surrounding buildings, and other parts of the city, including Luna Park, Darling Harbour and Barangaroo. Further afield, Taronga Zoo and Chatswood will also have brilliant light projections and installations the whole family can enjoy.
Lights aside, there will be a wonderful “ideas” component this year, with some inspirational speakers heading our way, including the likes of American filmmaker Spike Lee and Bryony Cole, the world’s leading authority on “sextech”.
As well as the main festival precincts, this year there’ll be loads of cool, pop-up music venues, from Ziggy’s Barber Salon in Darlinghurst to The Dock Small bar in Redfern. Many of these smaller events will be free, making them accessible to everyone.
If you live out of town, and are looking for a place to stay, the Sofitel Wentworth Sydney is in a prime location just metres from Central Station. Choose from a range of room options at this four-star hotel and easily access all of the Vivid Sydney festival precincts.
