Where to play golf and have a beer on the Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is a stunning backdrop to the beaches, and it has plenty of its own charms to woo visitors into the mountains.

Nature lovers will revel in the climbs and walks around the ancient peaks of the Glass House Mountains. Shoppers will find plenty to interest them in the main streets of the towns of Montville and Maleny. There’s also a range of accommodation and dining options that take advantage of magnificent country views.

If your idea of the perfect Sunshine Coast Hinterland drive involves a wood or an iron, then 18 holes at Maleny Golf Club is the way to spend the day. It’s a cleverly designed course that is built on a former dairy, and you’ll see plenty of nods to its former farm life as you walk the fairways.

Maleny Golf Club received celebrity endorsement in May 2020 when club pro Wayne Perske was joined by friend (and former world number one golfer) Adam Scott for a round that was broadcast around the world via Instagram. It is a public course that is kept running by a very dedicated group of local volunteers.

After a game of golf, there’s usually obligatory refreshments at the 19th hole, and another Sunshine Coast hinterland favourite could be the venue that you are looking for.

The Banana Bender Pub is at Aussie World, just off the Bruce Highway at Palmview.

It’s quickly earning the self-proclaimed title of, “Queensland’s quirkiest pub … but with style”.  Think true blue outback Aussie pub meets Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory! The decor is fun and vibrant – from its beer chandeliers to its tributes to Sunshine Coast surfing culture.

Food at the Banana Bender Pub is top-notch… and for entertainment, just pop over the fence to experience all the rides and excitement of Aussie World! Just check Aussie World’s Facebook page to check that they’re open!
