Hervey Bay Seafood Festival

The Fraser Coast is a magnificent spot to visit any time of year, but come Winter and Spring, things really ramp up in Hervey Bay.

There is of course what the region is most renowned for, whale watching but did you know there are amazing events that coincide with the season of the gentle giant?

One such event is the Hervey Bay Seafood Festival, a celebration of all things (you guessed it) seafood!

“The seafood festival itself started about 20 years ago, I remember it very clearly, it was in a little park down near the boat harbour, and it was pretty much a couple of stalls selling fresh seafood,” reminisced Deputy Mayor Darren Everard. “I guess it was a way for the local fishermen to interact with the local community, and now it’s morphed.”

“The seafood festival now is a major part of our whale festival,” he said. “People will be coming from all over the place to come and celebrate what we have every day on the Fraser Coast, and for the future I think it’s looking really cool.”

Here’s just a small glimpse of what will be on offer at this year’s festival which will take place on Saturday 13th August.

Hayden Bradford’s dad started Boat Harbour Fisheries 36 years ago. They’ll be serving Moreton Bay bugs and prawns caught in waters off Bundaberg and Fraser Island.

The restaurant scene on the Fraser Coast has gone ahead in leaps and bounds, and Odyssey Bistro is a local favourite. Jason England and Scott Thompson have a strong relationship with local farmers and fishmongers, and they change their menu on a weekly basis, to showcase what’s at its best.

Of course, EAT at Dan & Stephs will be highlighting some top quality dishes as well as Tres Salsa, another seafood specialiser.

Enjoy your fill of good food, cold beverages and great entertainment at this year’s Hervey Bay Seafood Festival. See you there!
