Love to explore by foot? Well, 30 minutes is all it’ll take to cover the perimeter of this paradise. But don’t worry – the island is simply the tip of the iceberg!
Heron is a tiny coral cay located near the Tropic of Capricorn, surrounded by more than 200,000 square metres of reef including 20 breath-taking dive sites.
Don’t fret though – if you have a dive ticket that needs refreshing – this is the place to do it. As you arrive into Heron, the water off the jetty is about 5 metres deep – an ideal ‘toe in the water’ experience. Even here – so close to the resort, it’s prolific with incredible marine life.
But, if diving isn’t quite your thing – when the tide is out, a few steps from the beach is all it takes to marvel at the richness of the reef!
Heron offer complimentary guided reef walks as part of your stay at the resort. The tour takes around 90 minutes and usually sets off during the afternoon’s low tide… giving guests an insight into the weird and wonderful creatures that call Heron home!
Prefer your own pedal power? Then another option for exploring the reef is by kayak or SUP… or, you can delve deeper into Heron’s underwater world inside a semi-submersible.
The hour-long tour brings you face-to-face with rays, turtles and sharks… without getting your feet wet!
The kids will love it… as well as the island’s junior ranger program. It runs through the Queensland school holidays and can be booked via Heron’s website.
