Cans for Cash: Saving Furry Friends with Empty Drink Containers

We’re all familiar with the incredible work done by the RSPCA in rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need. However, what many might not know is that this vital charity receives only 4% of its funding from the government, relying almost completely on public donations to continue its essential work. That’s why RSPCA has partnered with Containers for Change.

Containers for Change is more than just a recycling program; it’s a lifeline for the RSPCA during this cost-of-living crisis where cash donations are low. This initiative allows you to exchange your bottles and cans for 10 cents each and directly donate the proceeds to the RSPCA. You can help keep our furry and feathered friends cared for and supported, and the RSPCA doors open.

The concept is simple: for every eligible container you return, you receive a 10-cent refund.

It only takes 11 containers ($1.10!) to feed a Koala eucalypt leaves for a day.

25 containers ($2.5) will feed a little pup or kitten.

In Queensland, there are 360 refund points scattered across the state, making it convenient for everyone to participate. Whether you choose to drop off your containers, use drive-through depots, utilise bag drops, or even try out Reverse Vending Machines and home collection services, there’s an option for you that suits your work and home schedule.

The RSPCA’s work extends beyond just domestic animals; they are also dedicated to the care of wildlife. Your donations, through Containers for Change, play a pivotal role in raising funds to treat sick and injured wildlife.

If you’d like to donate but find it challenging to come up with spare change, keeping your empty drink containers might be your ticket to making a difference.

So, let’s recycle for a purpose, and together, we can ensure that the RSPCA continues its incredible work in safeguarding and caring for our beloved furry and feathered friends.
