If you haven’t ventured beyond the beaches of the Sunshine Coast to the growing number of distilleries and breweries – it’s time you did.
At the southern end of the coast Caloundra is home to Beachtree Distilling co – a multi-award winning gin distillery – known for their use of native botanicals.
Their latest, the “Skippy”, won gold at the prestigious New Work wine and spirit awards. And they have another gin, a rum, AND a whisky on the horizon.
The business is also a great example of sustainability – the distillery waste goes to local farmers to feed cattle and pigs, and their One Bottle One Tree program, means every time you indulge by buying a bottle, they’ll plant a tree. It’s a win win!
Further north, in Warana, best mates who Matt Hepburn and have gone from strength to strength, brewing beer.
They packed in their day jobs a decade ago to learn all they could about the trade, now their company Your Mates Brewing is the proud brewer of award winning beers.
“Larry” is their most popular brew, and now sold in 90 per cent of Queensland bottle shops. And their brewery site doubles as a popular local pub – making it well worth the visit next time you’re up that way.
