A Hinterland Adventure

The Sunshine Coast is home to many sunshine moments that will put a smile on your face. And if getting back to nature is your way of finding your sunny disposition, then you’ll discover plenty to smile about in the hinterland.

The Hike Collective is an organisation that offers guided hikes on the Sunshine Coast. The walks are short and sharp and are located no more than an hour from the nearest airport. That makes them great for tourists flying in and also locals who live in Brisbane. So far two walks are offered; one around the Glass House Mountains and the other in Noosa National Park. Many more walks will be added soon. The guides offer excellent commentary that includes the local First Nation’s and European history, and information on flora and fauna.

To go deeper into learning about the natural history of the region, you can’t beat Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve. It’s home to an excellent discovery centre where visitors can use the latest technology to learn about the sub-tropical rainforests which once covered the entire Blackall Range. It also offers amazing views of the Glasshouse Mountains from its aptly named Mountain View Café.

More great views of the mountains can be enjoyed at the nearby Maleny Botanic Gardens and Bird World. Visitors can wander the stunning botanic gardens which are spread over 7 hectares and feature over 6kms of walking paths. There are also 4 walkthrough aviaries which are home to over 700 native and exotic birds which guests can have a close encounter. The large property can be explored by golf buggy meaning it’s accessible to all. There’s also a café on site.
