The Sarina Sugar Shed

The Mackay Region is home to an abundance of treasures and many proud claims to fame. One statistic the region is proud of is that it’s the second largest sugar producing region in Australia.

That history is celebrated at The Sarina Sugar Shed in the charming little town of Sarina, about thirty minutes from Mackay. It’s the town’s number one tourist attraction where visitors can enjoy a taste of the tropics and follow raw sugar from the cane in the ground, right to the tasting room.

The shed offers a Sugar Shed Tour and a Rum Distillery Tour. Both tours take in the tasting room where guests can sample chutneys and jams, liqueurs, fairy floss and more.

There’s also a café on site and a retail store that would make even Willy Wonka himself weep!

When in the region, a great place to stay is the Comfort Resort Blue Pacific. It’s just metres from Blacks Beach in Mackay’s northern beaches. And offers great accommodation, pools, heaps for kids to do and it’s close to everything.
