The Variety Bash is not a race or a rally – instead it’s a journey through the bush with a bunch of mates raising money for the kids of Queensland!
Each year, thousands of children from across the state who are sick, disadvantaged or living with a disability receive life-changing support thanks to Variety – the Children’s Charity.
This is through the form of a grant, which can contain either equipment and services, scholarships, programs or experiences… and by joining the Bash, you get to see first-hand the difference your fundraising has made by visiting schools along the way!
All you need is a two-wheel drive, that’s older than 30 years, plus commit to raising $8,500 with your team! Then it’s 10 epic days on the road with a few hundred folks. Here’s what the 2022 Bash route looked like…
Part 1, which aired on Creek to Coast, saw us bring smiles to country schoolkids, spin our wheels, make memories with new mates… and get a little lost along the way!
Our 10-day cross-country odyssey kicked off in Winton… which detoured via the Birdsville Races – with Yeppoon in sight as the finish line nears.
On this second leg of the Bash, we passed through Tambo State School – delivering 78 bikes for each kid. It’s an iconic Bash tradition, and one that certainly never gets old. In fact, each year it’s a surprise for the newbies as they hand over a set of wheels to a child who perhaps has never owned a bike before. Tissue boxes at the ready!
With 4,000 clicks under our belt, 400 bashers in tow, and 10 epic days – that can only mean one big outcome! A record-breaking $2.35 million dollars raised for the kids of Queensland. What an effort!
