Australia’s Favourite Nut

In the heart of Queensland, there’s an area known for turtles, a famous tipple, and a tourist hotspot – the southern Great Barrier Reef. But there’s more to this region than meets the eye. Welcome to Bundaberg, the macadamia capital of Australia, where 49% of the country’s macadamia production takes place.

Bundy is home to ‘Macadamias Australia’ which started over 50 years ago and is still going strong. The secret? Family and dedication.  Back in 1958, Ron Steinhardt worked at a sawmill to save up to buy a parcel of land that he could call his own. What started as a dream turned into a legacy that has been passed down through three generations.

Today, the legacy is upheld by Ron’s daughter, Janelle Gerry, and her children, who have been instrumental in growing their macadamia dream. What was once a humble tin shed on the original plantation has now transformed into the Macadamias Australia Visitor Experience Centre. There are a world of experiences awaiting you. Here are some hot tips for your visit:

  1. Guided Orchard Tour: Take a tour through the original orchard and learn everything about Australia’s favourite nut.

  1. Orchard Table Dining: Savor a unique meal at the orchard table, surrounded by the lush macadamia groves with macadamia-inspired dishes.

  1. Chocolate Room: A visit to Macadamias Australia is incomplete without checking out the chocolate room. Here, you can indulge in complimentary tastings of delicious macadamia treats.

If none of these activities tickle your fancy, there are a bucketload of other experiences to be had at Macadamias Australia, jump on and have a look at their website.
