Brisbane City Council

Brisbane is one of the great cities of the world – but even greatness can be improved upon.

With around 1300 new residents settling in the city each month, the Queensland capital needs to grow and evolve – and how that will happen is the subject of the Brisbane City Council’s “Plan Your Brisbane” campaign.

Residents are invited to speak up and have their say about reshaping the city – through forums; online surveys; a short film competition; and even an online game called “Plan Your Brisbane”.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says it’s imperative that the city continues to grow and develop to meet increased population – but the Council wants to know what aspects of the city are most important to its residents, including affordability; green space; transport; and lifestyle.

Protecting and increasing green space is proving to be an important factor in the discussion – with the Brisbane City Council on target to create 40% green cover in the city by 2031.

Already, Brisbane residents – and tourists from interstate and overseas – have embraced some of the city’s most beautiful green spaces, including South Bank Parklands at South Brisbane and the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha.
